| | During the first visit to the North Precinct on Feb. 6 at 2 pm, a crowd of approximately 60 Dekalb County Police officers were sworn in by Brookhaven Mayor J Max Davis. Mayor Davis delivered the oath in 3 separate groups as the room would not hold all of the officers present at once. Joining Mayor Davis were Rebecca Chase Williams, Brookhaven City Council District 1 and JD Clockadale, Interim Deputy City Manager. The second ceremony occurred at 10:00 pm where appx 30 additional officers were sworn in by Mayor Davis. Mayor Davis was joined by District 1 Councilwoman, Rebecca Chase Williams, District 2 Councilman, Jim Eyre, District 3 Councilman, Bates Mattison and Interim Deputy City Manager, JD Clockadale. |

This brings the total sworn Brookhaven officers to nearly 100, including nearly all of the North Precinct force and a number of special forces officers who will assist in tactical situations. This does not mean that Brookhaven will have an increase in police presence - only that any officer that could potentially be dispatched to the City of Brookhaven from the North Precinct will be able to issue citations and enforce ordinances. The citations the officers issue will be heard (for the most part) in the Brookhaven Municipal Court Building which is at 2 Corporate Square.
At the 2 pm swearing-in ceremony, the Brookhaven Municipal Court was announced to be opening on February 19th - cases would be heard there starting on that date.
Mr. Clockadale said that he will provide Brookhaven citation books and a large wall map of Brookhaven to the officers of the North Precinct to avoid any jurisdictional confusion.
While the IGA for Police Services between the City of Brookhaven and DeKalb County has not been finalized at the time of this post, yesterday's activities will ensure the citizens of Brookhaven have sufficient police protection during the transition.
